Flute Choir Program Ideas

There are many different ways to approach programming for flute choir.  My taste is pretty eclectic, so I like to program a variety of styles of music.  My goal is to entertain and educate and open the ears and minds of both the audience and the members of the flute choir to appreciate and enjoy something new.  Most satisfying is when members of the flute choir tell me that a piece that they barely tolerated at the beginning of the season has become one of their favorites.  Occasionally, I will program to a theme, but usually prefer to have a balance of transcriptions, arrangements, and original music.

Here are some sample programs.  Also, there are many programs listed under Rose City Flute Choir/Past Programs.

Our group has three separate seasons:

Fall:  Holiday Concerts at Retirement Homes and Community Events, and sometimes a Halloween Concert.  I usually program Christmas Carols, other music associated with the holidays, and light classics.

Spring:  Our Spring Concert and a performance at Flute Fair.  Original music for flute choir, and a few arrangements and transcriptions.

Summer:  We perform at Farmers’ Markets, Retirement Homes, and occasionally Park Concerts.  Music is lighter with more pops-type music, arrangements, and a few light classics.
